When you organize a techno event, you know that every detail matters: the sound, the lights, the location and, of course, the flyer.
The flyer is not just a pretty picture with a date: it is the first impression that the public will receive about the event, a letter of introduction and a key tool to connect with your audience. When designing a flyer it is essential to take into account the musical genre present at your event.
If you are wondering… what style of flyer needs your techno event? In this article we will review some techno subgenres and how you can translate their musical essence into a flyer design that really represents the soul of the event.
Hardtechno

Hardtechno is the most intense, extreme and direct side of techno.
Its fast rhythms and aggressive drums demand a design that reflects that frenetic energy.
Recommended aesthetics: dark backgrounds, industrial or broken typographies, grunge textures, red, metallic or neon tones, and visual elements representative of the genre such as chains, metal structures, fire or aggressive glitch.
Melodic Techno y House

This style combines the groove of techno with an emotional melodic sensibility. Melodic Techno is characterized by its deep sound, full of melodies that seem to transport you to another world.
Recommended aesthetics: clean designs, soft colors, minimalist but powerful compositions, organic elements, simple and modern typography.
Acid Techno

Acid techno was born in the 80s as an evolution of acid house, and its sound is characterized by the use of the iconic Roland TB-303 synthesizer.
This subgenre has a rebellious, psychedelic and powerful air, perfect for events that seek to recall the essence of underground raves.
Recommended aesthetics: On a visual level, flyers can include psychedelic motifs, neon colors, distorted typography, classic smileys and textures that evoke the aesthetics of oldschool flyers. Colors such as acid greens, yellows or magentas can also fit very well with this genre.
Dark Techno

Dark techno moves in darker and more mental terrain. If your event is focused on this genre, it would be ideal that the flyer reflects the depth and mystery of dark techno sounds.
Recommended aesthetics: Black and white images, grainy textures, fog, shadows, brutalist architecture or abstract compositions with dim lighting can be great allies to evoke that characteristic sound universe.
Industrial Techno

Intense sounds, distorted and with a strong influence of industrial sound. This subgenre is closely linked to industrial, post-apocalyptic and hardcore underground aesthetics.
Recommended aesthetics: Flyers for industrial techno can include rusty textures, urban landscapes in ruins, machinery, gray tones, metallic, and typographies that transmit that feeling of hardness.
Minimal Techno

Minimal techno is based on repetition and simplicity, but with an impeccable execution.
Recommended aesthetics: Your design should be along the same lines: clean, orderly and with a clear visual hierarchy. Thin typography, precise use of color and simple geometric shapes help to create a modern and sophisticated aesthetic that represents this style well.

I also want to point out that despite the style recommendations I’ve given in this visual guide, I personally don’t like to limit myself and associate a definitive style to any genre. I always like to experiment with all the options offered by art and design, letting the ideas flow until I find the best design option for each event.
